The first page of your lab write up should be your lab sheet that contained the instructions for doing the
lab. The top of this sheet is where you should include your heading co!plete na!es "first and last#$ the
date$ and your class period "not your lab period#.
%n the day they&re due$ they should be ready to turn in at the start of class$ as no ti!e will be allotted for
last !inute changes or finishes$ or ordering the re'uired ite!s and stapling the co!pleted write up
together. This should all be ta(en care of before the bell rings.
)f your lab is not co!plete for the due date$ it !ay be turned in late$ for a 1*+ penalty on the grade per
day it is past due$ up until the day that ) return the graded labs to any class. %nce graded labs ha,e been
returned$ no new labs will be accepted fro! students for any reason. This will result in a * on the lab.
Generally the unexpected absence of one of the lab group !e!bers is not sufficient enough of an excuse
to turn in a report later than the due date. Please be responsible to your group in this regard.
The rest of these expectations follow the general idea that you are co!pleting a lab report that is an
independent$ co!plete picture of what was re'uired of you in the lab. Thin( of it this way if a non physics
person got a hold of your write up$ would they be able to follow what had been expected of you and what you
did to co!plete the lab si!ply by reading your write up- )f not$ then you ha,e not been thorough or clear
enough in your presentation.
.ll !easured ,alues should be labeled with appropriate ,ariables and units and a brief description of the
!easured 'uantity should also be included. /ou !ay e,en choose to include a s(etch of the situation to
show the location of the specific ,ariables within the set up of the lab.
.ny ti!e the sa!e !easure!ent is being !ade !ultiple ti!es$ it should be placed in chart for!$ with
appropriate headings and units. )f an a,erage calculation is then re'uired of the !easure!ents$ this
wor( should be shown to support where the a,erage ,alue ca!e fro!.
0any ti!es the units you !easure a particular 'uantity in are not appropriate for further calculations and
you need to do a unit con, ersion. Please be sure to show this wor($ with appropriate con, ersion factors.
.ny calculations that need to be co!pleted should follow the steps of 1%ne 2ay to 3how 2or( on a 45
handout. .ny identical calculations perfor!ed on 6ust a different set of nu!bers do not need to show all
that wor($ si!ply the gi,en and the new answer will do.
.ny 'uestions that are as(ed of you in the lab should be answered in co!plete sentences$ including the
details of the 'uestion in the answer.
Generally spea(ing$ the lab write up should be neat$ co!plete and presented in the order in which ite!s
in the lab were co!pleted$ unless ) instruct differently.
%nce labs ha,e been graded and returned to students for re,iew$ they will be recollected and held until the end
of the grading period in which they counted.
