Chemistry Symbols

Chemical symbols are abbreviations for atom names like Al for aluminum and Cl for chlorine. A chemical formula combines symbols to show how atoms form molecules, such as O2 for oxygen, H2O for water, CO2, C6H12O6, and Al(NO3)3 for aluminum nitrate which contains 1 aluminum atom, 3 nitrogen atoms, and 9 oxygen atoms.
