Calculation Front Page

This document provides calculations for the design of a steel walkway structure. It includes load calculations for grating, cross members, and stair stringers based on member sizes and spacing. A 3D model of the structure was created in STAAD software for analysis. The appendices provide details on grating design, load calculations, structural analysis results from STAAD, base plate and anchor bolt design, and designs for typical beam-to-beam and column-to-beam connections. The document establishes the design criteria and loads to inform the structural modeling, analysis, and connection detailing.

APPENDIX B

LOAD CALCULATION

Dead Load Calculation

The self weight of steel (Dead load) has been calculated by STAAD itself.

Form STAAD, the dead load 5% added for connections elements,

1 square meter has been considered for load calculation.

Grating load per square meter

Number of Bearing bar per sqm=(1000/32)+1=32 nos.

Number of cross bar per sqm=(1000/124)+1=9 nos.

Weight of bearing bar per sqm =32x1x0.014=0.448 kN/m2

Weight of cross bar per sqm =9x1x0.003=0.027 kN/m2

Total Dead Load per sqm. = 0.448+.027 = 0.48 kN/m2

Dead load on cross member

Cross member spacing 2.062m

Load due to bearing bar=0.448 kN/m2 x 2.062m= 0.923 kN/m

Weight of cross bar per sqm =0.027 kN/m2 x 2.062 m =0.056 kN/m

Total Dead Load = 0.923+0.056 = 0.98kN/m

Conservatively add 10% for fixation and imperfection =1.08 kN/m

Spacing stair stringer member max.spacing 0.7m

Total Dead Load on stair stringer member = (0.7/2)x0. 48= 0.17 kN/m

Handrail dead load 1.00 kN/m (Conservatively assumed)

Live load on cross member

Live load 4 kN/m2 has been considered as per BS 6399-1914996, Table -1,

Total live load on cross member = 2.062x4 = 8.25 kN/m
Total live load on stair stringer member = (0.7/2)x4= 1.4 kN/m say 1.50kN/m
