Hsbe Ii Lecture 8-"When The Bubble Busts: Narcissistic Vulnerability in Mid Life Crisis"
This document summarizes a lecture on narcissistic vulnerability in midlife crises. It discusses how maintaining self-esteem becomes difficult with age due to physiological and social stressors. Midlife is filled with occasions where one's self-concept and ego must reintegrate into changing life structures, such as downsizing, menopause, children leaving home, and economic instability. Examples of midlife crises discussed include dealing with declining abilities, empty nest syndrome as children leave home and redefining one's identity, and coming to terms with one's own mortality as friends and family face death. Treatment options mentioned include letting crises run their course or seeking support groups and family support.
