Surds and Indices

Surds are irrational numbers of the form root n of a rational number, where n is a positive integer. Some properties of surds and indices include: adding or multiplying surds uses the same index; dividing surds subtracts indices; raising a surd or number to an integer power uses the product of the indices; and extracting roots follows the root property of (root a of b)^n = root a*n of b. A basic understanding of surds and indices helps solve math problems.
