1.
Determine A to H.
2. An element has two naturally occurring isotopes. The mass and relative abundance of isotope I is 120.9038 a.m.u and 57.4 %, respective. Isotope II has a mass of 122.9042 a.m.u. Find the average atomic mass of this element and identify the element. (September 2013) [Ans: 121.756 a.m.u]
3. A compound consist of 63% Mn and 37% O was found in a dry cell batteries. Find the empirical formula for this compound.
4. Determine the number of atoms that are present in 145 cm 3 of ethanol, CH 3 CH 2 OH. The density of ethanol is 0.789 g cm -3 . [Avogadros number = 6.022 10 23 ] (September 2013) [Ans: 1.346 10 25 ]
5. Nitrogen forms more oxides than any other elements. The percent by mass of nitrogen in one of the oxides is 36.85%. (a) Determine the empirical formula of the compound. (b) If given that the molecular weight of the nitrogen oxide is 152.0 g mol -1 , determine the molecular formula for this compound.
6. Bone and dental implants are often coated with calcium phosphate, Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 , to permit bone to bond with the implant surface. If a coating process can deposit 0.115 mole of pure Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 on an implant, what is the mass of the coating? [Ans: 35.67 g] Symbol
