NEPTUNE

BY SOPHIE DOHERTY
WHAT DOES NEPTUNE DO???
It takes Neptune around 164.8 earth years to spin (orbit)
around the sun. In 2011 Neptune completed its first full orbit
around the sun since it was discovered in 1846.
It is much bigger than earth,
more than three times the size of earth.

Did you know???
Did you that Neptune has many moons?
There are at least 13 that we know of, but because they are difficult to
see there are probably many more. Some people have seen as many as 19
moons.
The first moon to be discovered was Triton.
In 1989 Voyager 2 swept past Neptune. It is the only spacecraft so far
to go past Neptune. There might be another trip leaving in 2016, and
it will take about 14 years to get to Neptune.

Did you know that Neptune has a thin layer of rings which is
likely made out of dust grains? There are 6 rings and the
rings change size as they go round Neptune.
WHEN WAS NEPTUNE FOUND?
Neptune was probably first seen by Galileo, but he drew it as a star and so
it actually doesnt count because he didnt know what it was.
Neptune was then found in September the 23
rd
1846
& discovered by Urbain le Verrier & Johann Galle
WHAT IS NEPTUNE
MADE OUT OF?
NEPTUNE IS MADE OUT OF GAS. IT IS THE SMALLEST GAS GIANT IN THE
SOLAR SYSTEM. IT IS ALSO VERY COLD AND THE WIND IS FASTER THAN A
HURRICANE.
DID YOU KNOW???
Neptunes moon Triton is getting closer to Neptune,
and is eventually going to be torn apart by its
gravity and form more spectacular rings than
Saturns.

HOW MANY THINGS ARE CALLED
NEPTUNE?
There is quite a lot of things called Neptune like the mermaid,
the city and the shark.
QUESTIONS
1 What will happen to Triton?
2 How long does it take for Neptune to spin around the sun?
3 When may there be another trip to Neptune?
4 Who probably saw Neptune first?
5 How fast is the wind on Neptune?
6 What is another thing called Neptune?
THANK YOU
FOR LISTENING!
