This document summarizes a performance study of biodiesel conducted by engineering students. The study aimed to comprehensively review engine performance and emissions when using biodiesel compared to diesel. Tests were conducted to analyze and compare the engine performance of diesel, biodiesel, and blends of the two. Exhaust gas analysis was also performed to determine the levels of carbon, nitrogen, and other pollutants from each fuel. The results were intended to identify the most efficient fuel and amount of pollutants produced.

ABSTRACT
In view of the fast depletion of fossil fuel, the search for alternative fuels has become inevitable, looking at huge demand of diesel for transportation sector, captive power generation and agricultural sector, the biodiesel is being viewed a substitute of diesel. Biodiesel, derived from the transesterification of vegetable oils or animal fats, is composed of saturated and unsaturated long-chain fatty acid alkyl esters. In spite of having some application problems, recently it is being considered as one of the most promising alternative fuels in internal combustion engine. The aim of our project is to do a comprehensive review of engine performance and emissions using biodiesel and to compare that with the diesel. In this project we discuss the engine performance of diesel, biodiesel and the different compositions of biodiesel. And we also discuss and test the exhaust gas analysis conducted with these fuels. After doing the performance test conducted with the above fuels, we determine the most efficient fuel and the end of the exhaust gas test,we determine the amount of carbon, nitrogen and other pollutants that are contained in the fuel.
