How to measure threads
Use a thread pltch gauge to determlne the number of threads per lnch or
the dlstance between threads ln metrlc connectlons. Place the gauge on
the threads untll the t ls snug. Match your measurements wlth the tables
ln thls gulde.
Measure the thread dlameter wlth an |.D./O.D. callper. when comparlng
your measurements wlth the dlmenslons shown ln thls gulde, remember
threads can become worn and dlstorted from use. our measurements
may not match exactly to the gures shown ln our tables.
How to measure four-bolt anges
Plrst measure the port hole dlameter uslng a callper. Next, measure the
longest bolt hole spaclng from center to center or measure the ange
head dlameter.
Dash numbers
Most uld plpe and tube slzes ln the Unlted States are ldentled by dash
numbers, abbrevlatlons that make orderlng components easler. Dash
numbers are commonly expressed as the numerator of a fractlon where
the denomlnator ls always l6. Por example, a -04 port or connector ls
4/l6 or l/4 lnch. Dash numbers are usually nomlnal (ln name only).
Metrlc threads are actual slze and do not use dash numbers. Por example,
Ml6xl.5 l6 mm thread O.D. wlth l.5 mm between each thread.
