How will your upcoming educational experience contribute to your future commitment of uplifting your campus community and/or the community at large? !o gaudy or metaphoric answer from me" The #alue of education as a reward is what will be contributed from me to my campus community and the community around me at large" $ feel that this can only be done through the reali%ation of failure being of #alue when on your way to success" &onfused? $ 'now" Failure? How can failure be of any #alue when it pre#ents you to mo#ing on to success? That is (ust it though) Failure is nothing but a test to a more than worthy student" To see if you ha#e gained the strength* humility* and sense to get bac' up and 'eep going after you+#e fell down" To actually feel successful after you+#e gained your reward through a degree* a medal* a certificate* or e#en that perfect grade you finally got in your toughest class, it needs to ha#e a bac'ground meaning and history of all the struggle you+#e had to endure to get where you wanted to be" Failure is the best and worst thing that education can offer" -ost students see only the bad side of it* but the strong see both" The most successful people are the people that ha#e struggled and been let down but endured" These are the people that go down in history as inspirational" That+s how $ want to be my community to see me* as inspirational" $+#e seen so many students (ust .uit after they get themsel#es in a tough situation in school" /hen as'ed why gi#e up when you+re so close the loo' on their face (ust shows that they feel no hope" This was me" Sophomore year was the most chaotic year for me throughout my high school career" $t too' a plunder not only on m heath* but my academic health as well" Failing a class* or two isn+t the most easiest thing to go through" 0specially for a student li'e me" $ ne#er thought $ would b the one to ha#e to ma'e up a class" 1sually getting the grade $ wanted was no big deal" 2ea* sometimes $ would ha#e a couple of rough spots with the teacher* but o#erall $ ne#er dreamed of ending the year off under a & at least" 3fter $ failed my two second semester classes* $ felt li'e no teacher or college would e#er see any potential in me or worth" 4i'e $ was (ust bound to be a burden to society" Ha#ing a crap (ob* li#ing off of go#ernment welfare" $ really thought this" Those two blows that failing those classes threw at me left me tripping all o#er the place" $ was not on steady ground" &all me dramatic but $ saw no future" $ lowered my standards* goals* and dreams" 3nd the worst thing about it is $ 'ept it all to myself" -y downward spiral of academic despair was all in my head" 1ntil $ finally tal'ed with my mom" She is the one who showed me how dramatic $ was being" 3nd how my dreams are still within reach" $+#e (ust stumbled on my road to getting there" 3ge taught me that a little failure can actually better yourself and ma'e your dreams e#en more appealing to you" Forcing you to push on" This is what $ want to share with the students that were (ust li'e me" $ am still affected by my sophomore year to this day" But $ refuse to let a couple of failure si made at 56 years old to effect how $ will be li#ing at 78"
