- Finding a place on a map or in a directory, given its coordinates
(SGS3.3)
- Locating a place on a map which is a given direction from a
town or landmark eg locating a town that is north-east of
Broken Hill (SGS3.3)
- Drawing maps and plans from an aerial view (SGS3.3)

Teacher will introduce activity and explain the rules and
limitations of the activity as well as any safety concerns.
Ss are to form groups of 3 (can have a pair or two depending
on numbers) and will each be given a set of sheets (a map and
grid page each).
Ss will sit in their chairs until
instructed to form their groups and
quietly line up outside.

Once the materials have been given out Ss are to line up
outside the classroom and then under supervision of their
teacher they will move to the activity area.
They will then be given a coordinate to start with (each groups
will have a different point. From there the Ss will follow the
directions at each point until they have collected all the points
and drawn the letters for each point.
Then they are to decipher the letters to find the word that they
create.
Ss who finish early can use the back side of their map to
create their own set of clues using positional points on the
map.
Ss are to form pairs quietly and to
move quietly to the door with their
hats.
Then Ss will move to the playground
where they will follow the
coordinates around the playground.
At no point should any S run.

the benches while creating their

Before Ss move on to the next lesson, they need to fill out a
ticket of leave in which Ss write down one thing they learnt or
liked from the lesson
Ss are to come inside quietly and sit
down awaiting instructions for the
next lesson.
