Installation of Domain Server
This is my step by step progression of installing a domain server using Oracle VM Virtual Box
Manager.
1. First the Windows Server 2008 shortcut file was selected from the location finder using the
Oracle VM Virtual Box software. The location was in the mel022-5 folder within
mmhp2014
2. The Virtual Hard drive was named server2008. The size was set to 45.97GB.
3. In the preview box, the name of the server and operating system was previewed. I selected
RAM Base memory of 4096MB and 64 bit operating system.
4. Server 2008 began running on the location path provided.
5. Windows began loading files on the Virtual Host machine.
6. The language and Keyboard/input method was set to English as United Kingdom time
currency format.
7. The Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (Full Installation) 64 bit was selected to install.
8. Upgrade option was chosen for the installation as my files, settings and programs will be
kept as normal.
9. The Virtual Machine began installing Windows Server 2008.
10. My default login details where used to login as the Administrator.
11. The Server Manager options panel was opened.
12. The Domain name was changed to raf_domain. To apply this change, the computer had to
be restarted.
13. Dcpromo was typed in run to access the active directory Domain services.
14. The servers forest root domain name was changed to cambridge.local.
15. The Forest Functional level was set to Windows Server 2008 R2.
16. For the Domain directory, the location for the Database folder was set to Windows\NTDS
under the Local drive.
17. A password was assigned to the Domain Administrators account.
18. The installation of the Active Directory of Domain Service was complete.
19. The installation came to an success.
20. As the Computer Administrator I had the option to add a new user by clicking, Active
Directory>Saved Queries>cambridge.local>Users
21. As the Administrator I able to make changes in personal details of saved users.
