Engineering Material-Non Metallic Material Application Training

This document provides information about a training course on non-metallic material applications for engineers. The course aims to give engineers a working understanding of fundamental non-metallic materials like polymers, rubbers, plastics, and fiber reinforced plastics. It will cover definitions, properties, manufacturing, selection, applications, defects, and maintenance of non-metallic materials. The objective is to help engineers better understand and utilize non-metallic materials in their work by translating complex principles into easy to understand terms.

Engineering Material: Non Metallic Material Application Training

Background
Engineers can be defined as those who adapt materials and energy for society's needs.
This definition emphasizes the vital importance of an understanding of materials to
today's engineer. Despite of the application of non-metallic materials in industry is
growing rapidly most engineers are still !now little about those newly materials.
"ompared to the common metallic materials most engineers are not therefore well
e#uipped to e$ploit the non-metallic materials within the broad range of available
materials. %ufficient understanding of those materials needed to help the engineers to
perform their &ob satisfactorily.
The course is intended to translating comple$ principles and procedures into easy to
understand terms that will enable participants to gain a valuable wor!ing understanding
of the fundamental principles of non-metallic materials engineering as well as polymers
'rubbers and plastics( and fibre reinforced plastics 'polymeric composites(.
This course will be of significant benefit to anyone who needs a wor!ing understanding
of non-metallic materials and their applications. )articipants will gain a technical
familiarization with rubbers 'elastomers( plastics and polymeric composites and their
properties and their manufacturing as a basic understanding to perform non-metallic
material selection and maintenance. Emphasis will be given to the foundational concepts
of materials structures and properties and the latest developments in material processing
and applications in combination with an overview of materials defect and failure. This
will provide a solid foundation and understanding of the significance and impact of
materials engineering in product design and maintenance of non-metallic materials.
Objective
The course is intended to refresh and upgrade the participant in understanding the
following*
- Definition and engineering terms of non-metallic materials i.e. polymers and fibre
reinforced plastics.
- )roperties and manufacturing of the materials.
- %election and application of the materials in industry.
- Defect failure modes and maintenance of the materials.
