Providing opportunities for different learning styles promotes
student voice and engagement. Louise Murray
In early childhood and throughout life, relationships are crucial
to a sense of belonging. Lexie Reimer
It is important for students to have a voice in their learning.
Bailey Lee
Students make meaningful connections to life experiences
and prior learning when the outside is brought into their
learning environment. Mary-Louise Tesoriero
Creation of flexible learning spaces
that match pedagogy and
maximise learning.
What impact have your questions of inquiry had on student
learning?
Our students are more engaged when they have a choice in
their learning Louise Murray
Students demonstrate greater initiative and perseverance
when they engage in authentic learning experiences Mary-
Louise Tesoriero
Students are better able to recall and consolidate learning
experiences and effectively communicate their learning with
others. Bailey Lee
A sense of connection enables students to develop a positive
attitude to learning and facilitates the ability to participate and
actively in society. Lexie Reimer
Enhanced student engagement in
the activity.
What is the impact on teaching practice?
I strive to actively listen to my students, even if this means
transgressing from the order of planned learning and teaching,
in order to accommodate new opportunities. Louise Murray
Children have innate capabilities and they can cognitively challenge
their own learning experiences through exploration, investigation and
choice. Consequently this has adapted my teaching style, as I have had
to be more flexible and believe in students own abilities. Bailey Lee
I have discovered that play is a context for learning, that assists
students to develop relationships and concepts. Including
play-based experiences in my teaching practice has directly affected
how the children in my class learn, develop and make sense of the
world. Lexie Reimer
I make a conscious effort every day to engage in meaningful
conversation with my students, valuing the ideas and experiences that
they share with me and consistently endeavour to expand their oral
language which impacts on their writing. Mary-Louise Tesoriero
Where do you dream to next?
As a school we wish to seriously explore multisensory spaces which are
conducive to enquiry based learning. We have visited schools with
some interesting learning spaces (predominately inspired by the Reggio
Emilia approach) and we have seen it working effectively.
Stefania Giamminuti
Her experience researching in the municipal
infant-toddler centres and schools of Reggio
Emilia, Italy. Through image and dialogue she
took us into daily life of the centres and
schools, observing the values that are shared in
a learning community through
pedagogical documentation.
