Four steps to planning for Jigsaw 1. Specifying learning objectivesWhat do you want your students to learn? 2. Preparing study guides. Plan for students to use the guides to direct their research 3. Forming Student Groups. It is important to plan out student group ahead of time to ensure students have the best environments possible. 4. Supplementing expert presentations. Teachers should be prepared to correct and misleading or inaccurate information and to clarify any unclear points

Phase 1: Assigning Experts: Students are assigned a component of the topic Phase 2: Information Gathering: Student experts study their component of the topc Phase 3: Expert Meetings: Experts for each component meet and prepare their presentations Phase 4: Peer Instruction: Experts present information about their component of the topic to their group mates Phase 5: Review and Closure. The topic is reviewed and summarized

The learning can be assessed by what students present to their group mates about their subsection of the topic. Teachers can also ask students to complete a short writing assignment on their subsection of the topic

Students are motivated by both the social interaction and the challenge of becoming experts on their subsections of the topic
