TUTORIAL 7 CHAPTER 7 SUBJECT : : UNDERGROUND CABLES EEE2106 ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEM

ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS

(1).

Determine the insulation resistance of a single core cable of length 3 km and having conductor radius 12.5 mm, insulation thickness 10 mm and specific resistance of insulation of 5 x 1012 -m. Calculate the resistivity of the dielectric in a cable, the core of which is 1.5 cm and sheath diameter is 5 cm. For a length of 3000 meters of cables, the insulation resistance is 1820 M. A single core cable for use on 11 kV, 50 Hz system has conductor area of 0.645 cm2 and the internal diameter of sheath is 2.18 cm. The permitivity of the dielectric used in the cable is 3.5. Find the maximum and minimum electrostatic stress in the cable. A 3 core 3phase belted cable tested for capacity between a pair of cores on single phase with third core gave a capacity of 0.4 F per km. Calculate the charging current for 15 km length of this cable when connected to 22 kV, 3 phase, 50 Hz supply. Calculate the kVA taken by a 10 km long, 3 phase 3 core cable if the capacitance measured between any two cores is 0.3 F/km when it is connected to 10 kV, 50 Hz busbar. A single core cable 1.0km has a core diameter of 0.5 cm and diameter under-sheath 2.0 cm. The relative permitivity of the insulating material is 3.5. The power factor on open circuit is 0.05 and the supply voltage is 11 kV, 50 Hz. Determine (i). (ii). (iii). (iv).
