SMS service evaluation in TEMS Investigation

Measure/calculate SMS access (message acknowledge at BSC/RNC/SMSC):

Step 1: Run a command sequence, see example below

Step 2: Check the event window to verify that SMS Sent/Received seems OK

If you open the Event Counter window you will actually see how many Sent/Received SMS you have accomplished (compared to number of sent SMS set in the command sequence.

Acknowledgement is stated in the Layer 3 messages both from UL/DL by CP-Ack messages. The SMS events SMS Sent/SMS Received indicate that the SMS is send succcessfully and hence having CP-Ack indications both in the UL and DL.

If you should receive a SMS error in the event window (or event counter) that should be counted as a NACK or failed SMS. The percent level of successful SMS: ((# SMS Sent - # SMS Error) / # SMS Sent) x 100

When measuring the successrate of received SMS we would recommend the same cmd sequence according to

Then by opening the Event Counter the SMS statistics is easy calculated by calculating the number of SMS Sent compared to the number of SMS received

In the simple example above we have 1 sent SMS and 0 received SMS giving a Received/Sent quote of 0/1 i.e 100% failure.
