Accreditation
All seven City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) are accredited by the Higher Learning
Commission and are members of the North Central Association of Colleges and
Schools. CCC is also approved by the Illinois Community College Board. For
further information, please visit www.ccc.edu.

Academic Calendar
CCC operates under a semester calendar. The academic calendar is divided
into two 16-week semesters (Fall and Spring) and an 8-week Summer term.

Grading System
Grade Description Grade Points
A Excellent 4
B Good 3
C Average 2
D Minimum Passing 1
F Failure 0
S (F) Satisfactory (Fail) 0

Graduation Grade Point Average (college level coursework)
Graduation Grade Point Average (GRAD-GPA) is calculated on the basis of all
credit hours and grades, A through F, earned while enrolled in the Credit
Career at the City Colleges of Chicago with the following exceptions: 1) All
credit hours and grades earned in Allowed Repeatable Courses appear on the
permanent academic record and transcript, but only the last credit hours and
grades earned in an ARC repeat sequence up to the allowable maximum are
included in the GRAD-GPA, and 2) All credit hours and grades earned in Other
Repeated Courses appear on the permanent academic record and transcript,
but only the last grade earned is included in the GRAD-GPA. Transfer Credit
(including Military Credit), Credit by Assessment, and Credit by Test are
excluded from the GRAD-GPA, although such credits appear on the transcript
and may apply towards graduation. Credit hours and grades earned in pre-
college level (remedial) coursework are excluded from the GRAD-GPA, although
such credits appear on the permanent academic record and transcript.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (includes pre-college level coursework)
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CUM-GPA) is calculated the same way as
GRAD-GPA, but includes credit hours and grades earned in pre-college level
(remedial) coursework.

Non-Grade Designations (excluded from the GPA calculation)
AUD Audited course; Grade Points = 0
ADW Administrative withdrawal. Effective Fall 1982 through Summer 1988,
ADW hours were included in GPA calculations as an F grade.
WTH Student-initiated withdrawal
I Effective Summer 1998, a grade of I (incomplete) becomes an F
unless the necessary missing requirements are fulfilled prior to mid-
term of the following term. The change becomes effective at the end
of the next term.

Symbols and Remarks
ARCx Allowed Repeatable Course; x = maximum number of times the course
may be repeated for inclusion in GPA calculations (see below).
IAI The Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) indicates coursework that is
transferable to any IAI affiliated college or university in the State of
Illinois.
* No credit towards degree.

Transfer Credit Detail
Transfer Credit Detail includes Transfer Credit, Credit by Assessment, and
Credit by Test. These credits are accepted in accordance with CCC policy, are
shown on the transcript, but are not included in GPA calculations. Transfer
Credits are credits earned at another institution, including military. Credit by
Assessment and Credit by Test are credits granted for college-level knowledge
and skills acquired outside the classroom; no letter grade is assigned.

Allowed Repeatable Courses (ARC)
Designated courses where the course number remains the same, but the
course content changes each term (for example, art, music, physical education,
student newspaper, etc.). All credit hours and grades earned appear on the
transcript, but only the last credit hours and grades earned in an ARC repeat
sequence up to the allowable maximum are included in GPA calculations.

Other Repeated Courses
Students who earn a D or F grade in a course may repeat the course.
Students who earn a grade of C or better in a course may repeat the course
once. All credit hours and grades earned appear on the transcript, but only the
last grade earned is included in GPA calculations.

Graduation Requirements
To be eligible to graduate from any credit degree or certificate program,
students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses used to satisfy core
curriculum and/or general education requirements and hold a minimum GRAD-
GPA of 2.0 or higher. Elective courses with a D final grade may count
towards graduation. Students who graduated prior to August 1, 2013 must
hold either a minimum GRAD-GPA or CUM-GPA of 2.0 or higher.

In accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of
1974, this document may not be released to a third party without the written
consent of the student.
