Professional Goals: I strive to become a secondary English and/or German teacher. Internship Experience: Fall 2013- Present Air Force Academy High School, Chicago, IL Internship involves designing and implementing daily and unit English language arts lesson plans for eleventh grade, fostering a classroom environment conducive to learning, conferencing individually with both students and parents, and working with my two mentor teachers towards the engagement of all students. Pre-Internship Field Experience: Spring 2013 Bath Middle School, Bath, MI Placement included four hours per week of observing, planning activities for, planning full lessons for, and teaching two seventh grade English language arts classes. Fall 2012 Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Through a pilot research program, I was placed in a Preparation for College Writing, or PCW, class for four hours a week. I observed, as well as planned activities for, planned full lessons for, and taught, the class. Waverly Middle School, Lansing, MI Placement included two hours a week of observing a remedial reading class and working individually with students on their reading and writing assignments: the class was structured like a workshop and I walked freely around the class providing help to those students who most needed it. As a mentor in the College Ambition Program (CAP for short), I volunteered for two hours a week at two different high schools, the majority of whose students are not very likely to continue their studies after graduation. I worked in an afterschool help-room, assisting students with their homework and their research into universities of higher learning. Teaching Related Work Experience: Fall 2009 2011 Professorial Assistant, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI As an assistant to two professors of poetry, I read and analyzed poems written by students under my professors supervision, I compiled bibliographies of literary articles written by my professors, I analyzed students poets interview transcripts, I collected articles about poetry and pedagogy, I compiled lists of poems written by the poets laureate for children, I put together and presented a report on my research to MSU faculty members, and I edited and analyzed video of students performing slam poetry. Personal Interests: Personal interests of mine include playwriting, acting, playing tennis and racquetball, and biking. I participated in forensics speech in high school, placing first at two tournaments and fifth in the state in dramatic interpretation my senior year. This experience in particular has cultivated in me an interest in finding ways to incorporate drama into the ELA classroom.
