Describe your educational experience/artifact:

All artifacts included in this standard focus on three different areas: Physical Education, Health Education and Adapted Physical Education. The physical education lesson plan was put together in my elementary methods class and is a lesson related to jumping activities. The health education lesson plan was created in my health methods class and was a part of a reproductive health unit plan for high school students. My amputations presentation was created in my teaching the exceptional child APE class. It was presented to the class as a group project.

I believe these artifacts best align with Standard One: Content; Teachers know the subjects they are teaching. The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the disciplines she or he teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for pupils. These artifacts align with this standard because my lessons are specific and meaningful to the unit they belong in. My presentation demonstrates that I have provided further knowledge on concepts about amputations and what can be done to help adapt activities so that amputees can participate in physical activity. My lesson plans also shows that I am able to develop a lesson that is appropriate to the specific age group I am teaching. These artifacts demonstrate competency in this standard because it demonstrates my ability to modify lessons so that all students will have a positive and significant learning experience.

I believe this artifact best aligns with KSD1.a.: Demonstrates Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy; The candidate displays extensive content knowledge of his/her subject areas and demonstrates a continuing search for new content knowledge, resources, and best instructional practices, while understanding student diversity and student misconceptions and misunderstandings as key to the teaching process. These artifacts best align with this KSD because I am knowledgeable on the lesson I am teaching and the presentations I am giving. Throughout my lessons you can see various and specific related vocabulary dealing with each unit. Secondary KSD alignment includes: KS3.c.: Engages Students in Learning; The candidate has the ability to engage students in the learning process by linking appropriate content, based upon suitable instructional materials and resources, to students' knowledge and experience, being certain that all students are cognitively engaged in the activities/assignments and that the students actively contribute to the content design. Instruction is highly coherent and appropriately paced for all students and allows for reflection and closure as appropriate.
Explain what you learned about teaching/learning from this experience:

From these experiences I have learned how to better organize my lessons into an ascending order. The students develop their skills through practice. If we practice skills in an order that makes it difficult for the students, they will never develop. I have learned that it is crucial to understand the content I am teaching to my students. If the educator does not understand the content they are teaching, it will be hard to get their students to be engaged and to be developed properly in different skills. I have also learned that resources may be needed for gathering different content information in order to get a high level knowledge base that will best benefit my students. This will help by getting students actively engaged and knowledgeable on the content they are learning.
Explain what you learned about yourself as a prospective educator as a result of this experience/artifact:

As a future educator, I have learned that a specific order of learning skills is important in the content area I am teaching so that my students can develop at a high level. I have learned that it is important to fully understand the content I am teaching to get the best engagement out of my students. I have also learned that resources are beneficial to understanding each unit and coming up with different teaching methods for my students. This will help ensure my students are receiving a high level of knowledge in those specific content areas. Not only will learning take place within my students, learning will take place within me as well.
