Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) : Porntip Bodeepongse

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) focuses on developing students' communicative competence through meaningful use of language. CLT involves using activities that simulate real-world tasks and communication needs to promote language learning. The teacher sets up situations students may encounter in daily life and allows outcomes to vary based on student responses. Students are motivated to learn through engaging in authentic discussions of meaningful topics. CLT shifts the teacher's role to facilitating and listening more, while students do more speaking and take responsibility for their own learning.

Activities that involve communication The completion of real-world tasks Learners must be engaged in meaningful and authentic language use

CLT makes use of real-life situations that necessitate communication. The teacher sets up a situation that students are likely to encounter in real life. CLT often leaves students in suspense as to the outcome of a class exercise, which will vary according to their reactions and responses. The real-life simulations change from day to day. Students' motivation to learn comes from their desire to communicate in meaningful ways about meaningful topics.
