Debbie has a black cat with white markings named Socks. She loves playing with Socks but didn't want him sleeping in her bed. So she got Socks a bed in the kitchen. One night Socks came into Debbie's room meowing loudly, and she smelled smoke from a kitchen fire. Debbie woke her parents and they called the firefighters, who put out the fire that destroyed most of the kitchen but not the rest of the house. Socks had come to warn them about the fire and save their lives.

EXERCISE I Debbie Henderson s cat is all black with a white face and small white feet.

He looks like he is wearing socks,so Debbie named him Socks. Socks is friendly cat. He loves to rub against peoples legs. Debbie loves her cat. She always gives him water and good food. She likes to play with him when she gets home from school. Debbie and Scoks spend a lot of time in their backyard. When Debbie got Socks, he had one habit Debbie didnt like it. The bed is not big enough for both of us, Debbie said. Debbie wanted Socks off the bed. She got a nice bis box. She put a soft blanket in it. She put the box in the kitchen next to the refrigerator. Every evening Debbie put Socks in the box, but every evening socks jumped out. He climbed the stairs and he jumped into bed with Debbie. Every evening Debbie carried Socks back to the kitchen. Finally, Socks gave up. He stayed in the box. For three months Socks didnt go up to the bedroom at night. Then one night he came into the bedroom again. He jumped on the bed, and Debbie woke up not, again, she said. But this time Socks acted strange. He didnt lie down and go to sleep. Instead, Socks meowed loudly. Whats wrong with you? asked Debbie. Then Debbie smelled smoke. She ran downstairs. The kitchen stove was on fire. Quickly Debbie woke her parents ran out. They called the fire department. Then Debbie and her parents ran out of the house. Debbie carried Socks in her arms. Soon firefighters came and they put out the fire. The fire burned most of the kitchen. But it, did not burn the rest of the house. Socks saved us! said Debbie. he knew the house was on fire. He came to warn us! Its true,Debbies mother said. Socks saved our lives.
