Summary of Bernard Leach.

Bernard Leach was a British potter born in 1887 who spent much of his career in Hong Kong and traveling between Japan and Britain. He helped establish traditional pottery styles by collaborating with Japanese potter Shoji Hamada and setting up the Leach Pottery in Cornwall, England in 1920. Leach promoted pottery as an art form that reflected the artist's philosophy and inner beliefs. Bernard Leach Bernard Leach was born on January 5 1887 and died on May 6 1979, in Hong Kong and spent most of his time there, but traveled between Japan and Britain. Bernard who is still known for his excellence in the field of pottery; It was he who had helped a number of potters grow over the years which lead him to influence other artists like Shoji Hamada. Leach has always had the love for the arts; Leach along with Hamada set up Leach pottery at St. Ives in Cornwall, England in 1920, both of the potters work a great deal to promote pottery. In their work they focused on traditional Korean, Japanese and Chinese pottery, in combination with traditional techniques from England and Germany, such as slipware and salt glaze ware (Wikipedia) to start a new exciting style; both of these artists thought that art needs to show a philosophy of the artist and this is why their works reflects their inner beliefs to a great extent. They were strongly committed to their craft and even paved a way for other up and upcoming potters. Mr. Leach even publish a book called A Potters Book that gave him great recognition and respect after becoming very popular in the 1940s and survived the 1950s through the 1960s during the counter-culture movement ( hippy movement). It is because of their hard work and commitment that the standards of pottery have been raised high. He traveled with other great artist and collaborated with them and created great pieces. The world was presented with his passion as he showed his art and enjoyed what he created, wrote and passed his knowledge to others
