Power Consumption Measurement Using Arduino and GSM, Zigbee
Power Consumption Measurement Using Arduino and GSM, Zigbee
Introduction:
In the existing power utility system, consumers are provided with power usage information every month by electricity board billing system. The length of the time, between updates, about power usage is too long for a consumer to observe the changes. In addition, utility bills can be complex about the present usage information, and a consumer may not be able to find changes in the power usage from the last bill. An opportunity to educate customers on power usage is lost because of these realities. If one is aware about the amount of power consumed per unit in a device, they will be careful in future about letting devices run when not needed. The goal of creating more awareness about energy consumption is optimization and reduction in power usage by the user, which would reduce the power costs and as well conserve energy.
Software required:
1. Arduino software 2. Base station interface
Energy meter
Bulb
Energy meter
ARDUINO UNO
8051
ZIGBEE TX
RECIEVER
ZIGBEE RX
Applications:
Wireless Power Meter designed to 1) Measure periodic power consumptions in residential, commercial dwellings and sub-stations in electric grid. industrial,
2) Display real time usage of electricity in terms of cost in residential and commercial areas. 3) Displaying unit count of current month and previous month and also bill amount. Details of the consumer can be seen by selecting the consumer from the list.
Advantages:
Eliminating manual meter reading Monitoring the electric system more quickly Making it possible to use power resources more efficiently Providing real-time data useful for balancing electric loads and reducing power outages Enabling dynamic pricing i.e., raising and lowering the cost of electricity based on demand
