UNIT-III 3(a) Which of the gases are used in the commercial gas-blast CBs? [2] 3(b) Explain the phenomena of current chopping & its effects on circuit interruption. Why it is more common in an air blast CB than in oil CB? [5] 3(c) What is meant by rated MVA breaking capacity of such a breaker? In a short circuit test on a circuit breaker, the following readings were obtained on a single frequency transient: (i) Time to reach peak restriking voltage, 50s (ii) (ii) the peak restriking voltage, 110kV. Calculate the average RRRV & the frequency of oscillations. [5] 3(d) Explain the construction & principle of operation of SF6 circuit breaker [5] --------------
