Battery Powered Dust Monitor

This document describes a battery-powered dust monitor circuit that uses a 3V lithium cell battery to power an LED that flashes at 5Hz. Light reflected off dust particles triggers a phototransistor, which closes a switch and changes the state of logic when dust is detected on a plate. The circuit is estimated to operate for approximately 3 years on a single battery charge while sampling dust once per second.
