Characteristics of Information Systems

This document discusses several types of information systems: - Transaction processing systems (TPS) collect, store, modify, and retrieve daily organizational transactions and are critical for organizations. TPS can process data in batches or in real time. - Decision support systems (DSS) assist with decision making by providing information, models, and analysis tools to evaluate decisions, especially during unexpected events or changes. - Expert systems capture expertise to solve problems that normally require an expert, such as diagnosing issues or selecting options. They do this through a question-and-answer process. - Management information systems (MIS) provide basic performance data to managers in areas like sales, inventory, and payroll. - Office
