Black Box: BY:-Kabilan Siranjivi Aero Ii Year

A black box is an electronic device installed on airplanes to record flight data parameters and cockpit audio. The first black box was invented in 1956. It consists of a flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder. The flight data recorder tracks operating data and parameters like time, altitude, and control positions. The cockpit voice recorder records audio from inside the cockpit. Black boxes are located in the rear of the plane and can withstand crashes due to their crash-survivable memory units. They provide vital information to investigate airplane crashes and help prevent future accidents.

INTRODUCTION
What is a Black Box?? A black box is a device or an electronic object which is installed in an aero plane to record specific aircraft parameters regularly.

HISTORY
The first black box prototype was invented in 1956 by Dr. David Warren of the Aeronautical Research Laboratories of Melbourne, Australia.

TWO SYSTEMS
FDR
Flight Data Recorder It is designed to record the operating data from the planes systems Cockpit Voice Recorder It is designed to track the conversations of the flight crew, engine noises and audio signals from the flight to the air traffic controllers.

CVR

POSITION OF A BLACK BOX

Mainly located at the rear.

PARAMETERS RECORDED
Time Pressure Altitude Airspeed Vertical acceleration Magnetic heading Horizontal Stabilizer Fuel flow Control-column position Rudder-pedal position Control-wheel position

INTERIOR

CSMU
Crash Survivable Memory Unit It is designed to retain 25 hours of digital flight information. The stored info. is of very high quality because the unit's state of the art electronics allow it to hold data in an uncompressed form.

POWER
Power supply Both FDRs and CVRs run off of a dual voltage power supply (115 VAC or 28 DC).The batteries are designed for 30-day continuous operation and have a six-year shelf life.

What is Inside????

The Flight Data Recorder and the Voice Data Recorder are built from similar components. Both include a power supply, a memory unit, electronic controller board, input devices, and a signal beacon.

LIFE SAVER
A Black Box truly helps to investigate about the air crashes which in turn helps to save hundreds of life in future by rectifying the errors. This technology in future will become sophisticated in the size of mp3 player.
