EC Week 27 UISG EC Division

It has been a very interesting week with finding out how much the children know about living things. We went for a living things hunt and the children picked up flowers, rocks, dead butterflies, leaves, paper and even pits. K2R students had a debate to decide if leaves on the ground were living or nonliving things. The K2Y class saw a small lizard. Some thought it was dead because it was so still. The children wanted to bring it back but it was too hard to catch. In class, the children had an opportunity to guess what things are living and non-living through a cut and paste activity. K2G students found a worm and a spider and observed them carefully in the classroom. The children were concerned that their findings might be hungry and thirsty. They offered their guests some leaves and water. However, our friends didnt show any interest and decision was made to return them back to their home. The students showed that they are caring and thoughtful. Our class libraries are filled with many unit-related books and the children have been looking through them and even started to ask questions about the photos. As we have gained prior knowledge of the childrens understanding of living things, we will now be able to plan more exciting activities for them in the weeks to come. Reminders: Children with no hats have to stay on the veranda at play time, so please help your child send his/her hat back to school. Library books and Home readers need to be returned in order for a new book to be chosen. Thank you for your cooperation!
