Kutta Joukowski's Theorem (12.12.2010)

Kutta-Joukowski's theorem states that: 1) A wing generates lift that is proportional to the circulation around it and the free stream velocity. 2) At a distance far from the wing, the flow velocity must equal the free stream velocity due to the uniform incoming flow. 3) For a wing of finite size, the algebraic sum of the strengths of sources and sinks is zero, but doublets can still produce effects at a distance from the wing.

KUTTA-JOUKOWSKIS THEOREM

When an aerofoil is placed in a uniform flow of speed

U with circulation , it experiences a lift of
magnitude U per unit span.
Since there is a uniform stream flow , the velocity at a
great from the aerofoil must tend to the free stream
velocity U.
Since the body is of finite shape, the algebraic sum of
the strengths of SOURCES & SINKS is zero. But the
doublets will produce effect at a great distance.
