Branchless Bankingg: The Easypaisa Way

Branchless banking in Pakistan via Easypaisa has enabled financial inclusion for many underserved communities. Easypaisa is a partnership between Telenor and Tameer Bank that allows users to complete financial transactions through a network of over 16,000 shops or via their mobile phones. It has grown rapidly since launching in 2010, facilitating over 100 billion rupees in transactions. Easypaisa addresses the large unmet demand for financial services, as only 14% of Pakistanis previously had access. The success of Easypaisa indicates that branchless banking can significantly expand access to the financial system for unbanked populations through mobile technology and widespread agent networks.
