Microfluidic Paper-Based Analytical Devices (Upads)

Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (MicroPADs) provide a new platform for affordable, sensitive, specific, user-friendly, rapid, robust, equipment-free and deliverable diagnostic tests, as outlined by the World Health Organization. MicroPADs are fabricated using wax printing to create hydrophilic channels on paper for fluid flow, allowing for portable and inexpensive multi-analyte detection using small sample volumes. Future work aims to develop alternative low-cost fabrication methods and materials, as well as new signal display techniques for MicroPADs.
