Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Network Routing Protocols Using Self Organizing Map (SOM)

The document discusses performance analysis of routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks using self-organizing maps. It analyzed four routing protocols - DSDV, DSR, AODV and DSR - under different mobility scenarios in a simulation platform to determine the most suitable protocol based on packet delivery ratio, overhead and delay. The analysis found that AODV performed best overall with fairly good performance across all three metrics under different conditions.

Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Network Routing Protocols Using Self Organizing Map SOM!

Ephraim Warutere Mureu Abstract The Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) are wireless network which have no central bridge, no fixed routers and no centralized administration All nodes ma! move randoml! and are connecting d!namicall! to each other "ence, each node acts as a destination as well as a router The MANETs have d!namic network to#olog! due to the mobilit! of the nodes There are man! #rotocols that have been develo#ed to aid in routing in these t!#es of networks and are generall! classified as either #roactive or reactive Each of these #rotocols is designed with some certain mobilit! scenario in mind To achieve effective routing in a given scenario, the right #rotocol must be chosen $hoosing the right #rotocol involves evaluating the #erformance metrics that defines the effectiveness of a routing #rotocol namel!% &acket 'eliver! This often #oses a challenge to a##lication designers as there are no readil! available standard #latforms on which to test them for these #erformance metrics Also com#aring the #erformance of various #rotocols using the ordinar! gra#hical methods #oses a challenge due the high number of #arameters under consideration This research endeavored to configure a simulation #latform on which various #rotocols could be evaluated under various mobilit! scenarios to determine their suitabilit! and #resent results in *elf )rganizing Ma#s (*)M) which are better in viewing of high dimensional data for #ur#oses of com#arisons An o#en source network simulator called +loMo*im was used to model the simulation #latform and four MANET routing #rotocols were evaluated These #rotocols are ,ireless (outing &rotocol (,(&) and 'estination *e-uenced 'istance .ector ('*'.) which are #roactiveand Ad hoc )n demand 'istance .ector (A)'.) and '!namic *ource (outing ('*() which are reactive )ur results demonstrated the usefulness of this modeled #latform as it was able to establish the best #rotocol for different scenarios $onsidering the overall #erformance, the A)'. emerged as the best #rotocol because it had fairl! good ratings in all the three #erformance metrics under consideration The same modeled #latform could be used to test other #rotocols in a similar manner
