Article I Election of officers
Section 1: The President
1. Names of persons interested in running for President shall be submitted to the
current President one day before the General Election.
2. The President shall be elected by the majority vote of the General Assembly,
meeting in open session and casting secret ballot.
3. Each presidential candidate shall be granted five (5) minutes for a campaign
speech at a designated session of the General Assembly. The order of the
presentation shall be determined by random drawing.
4. An allowance of ten (10) minutes shall be granted the General Assembly to
question candidates.
5. An allowance of ten (10) minutes shall be granted the General Assembly to
discuss the presidential candidates during which the candidates shall not be
present.
6. An allowance of five (5) minutes shall be granted to the Delegation to make their
decision. Voting within the delegations will be done by secret ballot.
7. If a majority is not achieved on the first ballot by one of the candidates, the two
candidates having the greatest number of votes shall advance to the General
Election.
8. In such an event, the General Election shall be held immediately after the results
of the primary are announced.
Section 2: Executive Vice-President
The Executive Vice-President shall be nominated by the Executive Committee and
ratified by majority vote at the General Assembly.
Section 3: Financial Vice-President
The Financial Vice President shall be nominated by the Finance Committee and ratified
by a majority code of the General Assembly.
Section 4: Vice-President for Publications
The Vice President for Publications shall be nominated by the Publications Committee
and ratified by a majority vote of the General Assembly.
Section 5: Campus AIA Representative
The Incoming President or Executive Vice-President of member student government
shall serve as AIA representative to facilitate communication between the organization
and its campus. If not in attendance or declined, the member student government
president shall appoint a Campus AIA Representative who has attended an AIA
convention. The representative will report to the SA president and be accountable to the
AIA Executive Vice-President.

Section 6: Other Positions


The Parliamentarian, Executive Secretary, and other pertinent positions shall be
appointed by the President elect through an application process. All appointments must
be approved by the AIA Executive Committee.

Article II - Term of Office


Section 1: Dates
Officers shall assume their office on June 1 of the year of their election and shall hold the
office for one (1) year. All appointed officers must be approved by June 1.

Article III - Recall


Section 1: Officer Removal
1. Any officer may be removed from office by a majority vote of the member
student government which participated in the convention which elected the officer
in question. If such an action is deemed necessary during the year, a written ballot
may be sent by the initiating student government Executive Committee to all
member student governments.
2. If an officer is not in good standing with their university they shall be removed
from office. The member student government advisor will send a letter stating
that they are in not good standing to AIA general advisor.

Article IV - Replacement of Officers


Section 1: Officer Replacement
In the event of an unexpected vacancy of the office of President, the host college for the
next Convention shall:
1. Notify all other member student governments as to the vacancy and accept 3
nominations for a new President.
2. Hold an election either by phone or by mail, with each student government getting
two (2) votes.
Section 2: Vacancy Nomination
A vacancy in another office shall be filled by nomination from the President, subject to
ratification by the Presidents of member student governments.

Article V - Amendments
Section 1. Amendments to this Manual may be made according to the Bylaws amending
formula.
