Tutorial 12

The document discusses electromagnetic theory concepts including: 1. Magnetization in materials and how relative permeability affects magnetic moment, bound current, and bound surface current density. 2. Calculating flux density in a magnetic circuit consisting of a coil wound around a magnetic material with a given relative permeability and current. 3. Deriving an expression for the magnetic potential difference or magnetomotive force between two points in space for a long straight conductor carrying a current. 4. Determining the magnetic flux density just outside the surface of a finite conducting cylinder based on the given internal flux density variation and surrounding medium permeability. 5. Calculating the induced motional emf between the ends of a copper strip rotating

B.Tech. (Information & Communication Technology) III Semester Core Course ELECTROMAGNETIC THEORY SC217 TUTORIAL NO.

O. 12 Magnetization in Materials: 1. If the winding in a toroidal coil (of Q.-7 of Tutorial No. 10) is wound over a magnetic material with relative permeability r , find (a). the magnetic moment per unit volume, (b). the bound current volume density, and (c). the bound surface current density. An electromagnet of square cross-section (with an air gap) has a tightly wound coil with 1500 turns. The inner and outer radii of the magnetic coil are 10 cm and 12 cm respectively. The length of the air gap is 1 cm. If the current in the coil is 4 A and the relative permeability of the magnetic material is 1200, determine the flux density in the magnetic circuit. (Neglecting the effect of fringing, the cross-sectional area of magnetic path can be taken as same as the air gap of 4 cm2). Magnetic Potential Difference (or Magnetomotive Force or mmf): 3. A very long straight conductor located along the z axis carries a current I in the z direction. Obtain an expression for the magnetic potential difference (or mmf) between two points in space. Magnetic Boundary Conditions: 4. The magnetic flux density in a finite conducting cylinder of radius 10 cm and a relative T. If the surrounding the cylinder is permeability of 5 is found to vary as (0.2 / ) characterized by free space, determine the magnetic flux density just outside the surface of the cylinder in free space. Electromagnetic Waves Faradays Law of Electromagnetic Induction: 5. A copper strip of length L pivoted at one end is rotating freely with an angular velocity r in a uniform magnetic field B . What is the induced motional emf between the two end of the strip. Electromagnetic Waves Displacement Current Density: 6.
A/m, where = t z , The magnetic field intensity in free space is given as H = H o sin y and is a constant quantity. Determine (a). the displacement current density, (b). the r r electric flux density D and (c). the electric field intensity E . r
