INTRODUCTION
The Bugis (Buginese) are the main ethnic group of South Sulawesi of Indonesia.
Came to the Malay peninsula from the island of Sulawesi (formerly Celebes), Indonesia's 3rd largest island.
Famous for their expert in sailing on the deep ocean. Spread over many areas of Indonesia such as North Sumatera, Malaysia, Kalimantan, Java, Bali, Maluku, Sumbawa, and West Flores as sailors. When Dutch invaded Indonesia in 17th Century apart of them migrated and mixed altogether with other tribes in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
Traders and very good in economic activities. Also, good in maritime in Peninsula Malaysia. well-known with their brave warriors, pirates and traders.
In Malaysia, they are considered as part of the Malay pan-ethnic group (the Malay Bumiputra), while they are considered a distinct Austronesian ethnic group in Indonesia. Contributed to both the politics of Indonesia and Malaysia involved in politics and the administration of Peninsula Malaysia especially in Johor.
Main language Buginese language (Basa Ugi). The consonant in the Ugi language are called as Lonatara which were based on Brahmi words.
Current prime minister of Malaysia, belongs to the Bugis ethnic group but considered an ethnic Malay under Malaysia's constitution
