Project in Math: F (X) P (1+R) - F (X) 96,000,000 (1+0.017)

The document is a math project calculating the population of the Philippines over the next 10 years. It is given that the population in 2012 was 96 million with an annual growth rate of 1.7%. The formula for continuous growth is defined. A table is created showing the population increases each year from 98 million in year 1 to 114 million in year 10. The total population of the Philippines in 10 years is calculated to be approximately 114 million people.

Project in Math
The National Statistics Office reported that the estimated population of the Philippines was 96,000,000 people
in 2012 with an annual rate of increase of 1.7%. What is the total population of the Philippines in the next 10
years?
First Step: Identify the following given data.
Population (P) = 96,000,000 people
Increase Rate (R) = 1.7% -> 0.017 (Divide 1.7 by 100 to extract the percent sign)
Time/Years (t) = 10 years
Second Step: Create the formula.

f(x) = P(1+R)t -> f(x) = 96,000,000(1+0.017)t

Note: After one year the population would be 96,000,000 + 0.017(96,000,000).By factoring we see that this is
96,000,000(1 + 0.017).The growth factor is 1.017. (Remember that the growth factor is greater than 1.)
Third Step: Create a Table of Values.

= 96,000,000(1.017)10
=113,626,796

The Population of the Philippines for the next 10 years will be 113,626,796 people or 114,000,000 people.
