Iv B.Tech. I Sem. Instrumentation and Control Systems Assignment-1

This document outlines assignments for an Instrumentation and Control Systems course covering four units of content. The assignments include explaining types of measurement errors and means to reduce them, classifying transducers by operation and comparing primary/secondary, active/passive, and analog/digital transducers. Other assignments cover classifying temperature measuring instruments by range, explaining reference junction compensation for thermocouples, describing errors in U-tube manometers and how to correct them, explaining how inclined tube manometers increase sensitivity, and discussing direct liquid level measurement methods and factors influencing flow measurement choices.

INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL SYSTEMS ASSIGNMENT-1

UNIT 1 1. Explain briefly about the types of errors involved in measurement systems by giving suitable examples. Discuss the means adopted to reduce these errors. 2. a. Classify different transducers based on operation with examples. b. Compare the following: i. Primary transducers Versus Secondary transducers ii. Active transducers Versus Passive transducers iii. Analog transducers Versus Digital transducers UNIT 2 3. Classify the temperature measuring instruments and indicate approximate temperature range of each category. 4. What is reference junction compensation? Why it is required for thermocouples? UNIT 3 5. Describe different sources of errors in U-tube manometer and how corrections can be applied to minimize these errors. 6. Explain how sensitivity can be increased by using inclined tube manometer. Describe its construction, advantages and limitations. UNIT 4 7. What are the different direct methods available for the measurement of liquid level? Explain any two of them. 8. Describe the applications of flow measurements .What are the different factors which influence the choice of method used for measurement of flow.
