How do you find a thesis? Think about how we revealed the themes within our mentor text We started with a topic, discussed what this topic meant to the story and finished with our opinion statement on the topic in the text. Need to use inferring, determining impotence and synthesizing to reveal your opinion on the topic in the book Same for your thesis- revealing your opinion statement that answers your question See Thesis Creation Handout Thesis Checklist- Refining your Thesis What questions should I ask to get my theme? Main Questions 1. Is my thesis statement comprehensive? 2. Is my thesis statement defined? 3. Does my thesis statement have a central idea? Supporting Questions Does my response use the questions language and answer the questions completely? Is the language clear and concise? Is there a direction for my argument? Have I cut away other options? Have I decided on the way my idea will move? 4. Does my thesis statement use opinion? 5. Can my thesis statement be proved with reasons and evidence? Can I see my idea in the answer? (how or why) Can I come up with good reasons to prove my thesis? Can I find proof in my text to back up my reasons (and central idea)?
