Autism Therapy

This document describes a dog therapy technique introduced in 2009 for autistic children. The goal is to build self-confidence by having children practice skills like walking with a dog on their side, shaking its paw, brushing and feeding it to work on motor skills, sensory integration, and reducing stress and fear. The technique was tested on 6 mild autistic and 6 borderline mentally challenged children aged 4-5 over 4 weeks of activities with dogs. Most children improved in motor skills, touching animals, imitation, feeding, and sensory issues, showing the technique can effectively be used in therapy clinics and homes.
