5-3R Wavelet

The 5-3R wavelet transform is a numerically lossless discrete wavelet transform that can only be used with integer input data, producing integer output data. It uses a lifting scheme that alternately predicts and updates even and odd values in the output array. Unlike other wavelet transforms, the 5-3R wavelet performs no quantization, using a quantization step size of 1 for all subbands.

5-3R wavelet

5-3 reversible discrete wavelet transform will be used or all numerically lossless
processing. 5-3R wavelet may only be used with integer input data, will produce
integer output data. The processing steps for 9-7I and 5-3R wavelet transformations
are quite similar. The only difference lies in the length of symmetric extension needed
for the two transforms and actual filtering steps of the transforms. 5-3 lifting steps
alternately predict and update the even and odd in the output array. For the 5-3R
wavelet transformation, no quantization is performed. The quantization step size for
every wavelet sub band, Δb is defined to be one (Δb=1).
