This document compares the data link layer protocols High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). It states that while HDLC supports full duplex communication, flow control and synchronous data transfer over point-to-point links, PPP additionally supports authentication using PAP and CHAP as well as compression. PPP also works over both synchronous and asynchronous links, unlike HDLC which only supports synchronous transfers, and is an open standard unlike HDLC which is a Cisco standard. Therefore, PPP has more features than HDLC.

Q5)

Q7) High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) is a Data Link Layer Protocol used for point to point data links. HDLC supports Full duplex communication, Flow control and synchronous data transfer. Point to Point Protocol (PPP) is another DLL protocol used for point to point data links. Although it is similar to HDLC, PPP supports authentication for PAP and CHAP. Furthermore PPP works on both synchronous and asynchronous links , unlike HDLC which only supports synchronous data transfer. PPP also supports compression and is an Open standard, whereas HDLC is a Cisco standard. Therefore PPP has more features than HDLC. The service HDLC provides which Ethernet does is Flow Control and ARQ.
