Criteria
Content and Topic Development

Level 4
Communicates a sophisticated and original point of view, using strong support.

Level 3
Communicates an original point of view.

Level 2
Communicates a point of view, but may be vague or merely echo previous posts without contributing original ideas or support. Comments are shallow contributions to the discussion; does not enrich discussion.

Level 1
Fails to communicate a point of view on the topic.

Contribution/Follow-up Postings 30% Frequency

Analyzes the posts of others, extends the discussion in new directions, relates comments to previous discussions. Participates frequently and consistently.

Elaborates on existing posts with further comment/observation.

No or few comments on blogs of others.

Participates once or twice a week.

Participates once a week.

Voice

Effective word choice and varied sentence structure contribute to a clear and powerful voice.

Adequate word choice and sentence structure contribute to an appropriate and effective voice. Largely free of grammatical, spelling or punctuation errors. The style of writing generally facilitates communication
