Eportfolio Reflection
Eportfolio Reflection
Kristy Walker
My E-portfolio is a collection of major assignments and assessments I completed while attending Dixie State University. All assignments and assessments are based upon the D.E.S.E.R.T. Model Standards. Through my time in the education program, I have gained valuable knowledge to become an effective teacher. This E-portfolio is a sample of some of my major accomplishments, and it provides evidence that I am a competent, caring, and qualified educator. Several of the artifacts in my E-portfolio demonstrate my ability to be a competent educator. In the Effective Pedagogy section, the integrated unit plan I created for Kindergarten shows my ability to integrate math and language arts into a social studies unit and also make learning attainable and enjoyable for the students. Also, the SIOP Evaluation Form from a supervised lesson demonstrates my competence in teaching a successful SIOP lesson. As the form reflects, I taught a math lesson with all components of SIOP woven in seamlessly. Furthermore, the SIOP Assessment Project shows my ability to analyze student learning and reflect on my teaching to make adjustments and improvements as a competent educator. Analyzing my students performance and reflecting on my practice happens every single day in the classroom, but it takes more than just reflecting on what worked and what did not work. It takes creating an action plan and putting it in place to be a competent teacher. In my SIOP Assessment Project, I created an action plan, or interventions, to help the struggling students succeed. Being a reflective educator also shows that I am a caring teacher as well. In my E-portfolio several artifacts also prove that I have grown to be a caring educator. In my differentiated lesson plan, I show an understanding for diversity in the 2
classroom and how to make learning achievable for every kind of learner. I show that I can differentiate the process, product, and assessments to match the students individual needs. The Teacher Notebook Assessment Reflection also proves that I am a caring educator. In this artifact, I completed an in-depth evaluation of two students behaviors. I looked at factors such as the students self-esteem, creativity abilities, strengths and weaknesses, needs, ability to work independently and in small groups, and social skills. I created a plan to focus on specific behaviors to help the children succeed in school. I also looked in depth at the students learning profiles and ways that I could help them learn based off of their learning styles and their preference. Another artifact in my E-portfolio that demonstrates my ability to be a caring educator is my Educational Philosophy. I care deeply about the children in my school, and I strive to build a community that supports and encourages each child in my classroom. I know that children need a connection with their teacher in order to learn. Therefore, I put forth effort to make a connection with every single student I teach. Lastly, my E-portfolio demonstrates that I am a qualified educator. This is evident in my good grades throughout the program. It is also apparent through my passing the Praxis exam. Also, through my Teaching with Technology History Production artifact, I show my ability to create engaging history lessons with technology. For this production, I researched to topic to become an expert in the content, and I created a video to teach my students while using Primary Resources. I also provide proof that I am a qualified educator in my Classroom Management Plan. In order to teach, one must have the fundamentals of managing a classroom full of
children. In this document, I created welcoming letters to families and students, classroom procedures, and even fun classroom rewards to ensure a successful learning environment for my students. My E-portfolio demonstrates a sample of all that I have learned while obtaining my bachelors degree in Elementary Education. All of the artifacts combined show my proficiency in the DESERT Model Standards. Through the many wonderful professors at Dixie State University, I have learned to be a competent, caring, and qualified educator.
