leisure reading. Pupils are given their own free time to read quietly at a reading corner while teacher aid those remedial pupils.

Pupils divide into groups of 4.

They are given a vacation brochure.

Each of them are required to share about the place he/

she wishes to go with justifications. The rest will give feedback and aid them in speaking. Collaborative learning.

Write a summary from a passage given.

Write a letter to someone.

Teacher can organize literacy quiz test between classes

so each class can send out one or two teams to compete with other teams. This will encourage pupils to work harder on what they are learning.
(ideas from stmartins.ampleforth college)

Reading is encouraged for boarders for whom a special

time slot is allocated every evening after supper. Day pupils are encouraged to read at home and a letter, together with a regularly updated recommended reading list, is sent out every year.

Teachers have to provide more opportunities for pupils

to work on themselves. For example, pupils can submit their writing for essay writing competition. Advanced learners will be able to utilize their time to harness on their literacy skills.
