Advantages and Disadvantages of Oscilloscope and Capacitor

The document discusses the advantages and disadvantages of using an oscilloscope. It notes that an oscilloscope can measure signal amplitude, frequency, and shape. It is useful for accurately measuring AC signals and monitoring AC ripple voltage in DC power supplies. However, oscilloscopes are generally less accurate than other equipment for measuring DC voltages.

Advantages and disadvantages of Oscilloscope

Can measure the amplitude of the signal, the frequency of a signal and we can also see if the signal is of the shape that we are expecting. For the accurate measurement of A.C. signals. Oscilloscope shows us the peak to peak amplitude of the signal and also shows us the frequency of the signal One advantage of using an oscilloscope is its capability of monitoring the amount of AC ripple voltage riding the DC voltage; this makes an oscilloscope perfect for troubleshooting DC power supplies with excessive ripple resulting from component failure. Oscilloscopes are designed primarily for waveform observation and are generally less accurate than other types of testing equipment commonly used to measure DC voltages.

A capacitor (originally known as a condenser) is a passive two-terminal electrical component used to store energy electrostatically in an electric field. The forms of practical capacitors vary widely, but all contain at least two electrical conductorsseparated by a dielectric (insulator) A fixed capacitor is constructed in such manner that it possesses a fixed value of capacitance which cannot be adjusted.

A variable capacitor is a capacitor whose capacitance may be intentionally and repeatedly changed mechanically or electronically. Variable capacitors are often used in L/C circuits to set the resonance frequency.
