Consonant Teams ci si si ti ve qu wh wr
The letter teams ci , si , and ti are consonant teams when these letters occur at the beginning of any syllable except the first syllable in a word. These three teams all represent the sound /sh/. These three teams represent the sound /sh/ at the beginning of all syllables except for the first syllable: spe-1-cial, pen-2-sion, suc-2-tion. The letter team si is a consonant team when it occurs at the beginning of any syllable except the first syllable in a word. The team si represents the /zh/ sound: vi-1-sion. Almost no English word ends in the letter v . The letters v and e combine to form a consonant team at the end of the word when the silent e has no other function except to prevent the v from being the last letter in the word: valve. The letter team wr may only be used at the beginning of a root word: write/unwritten, wrap/unwrap.
