The document discusses the process of academic writing. It explains that academic writing has a specific audience (professors/instructors), tone (formal and serious), and purpose (the subject being discussed). The writing process involves 4 steps - creating ideas, organizing ideas, writing a rough draft, and revising the draft. The first step of creating ideas involves prewriting techniques like choosing a topic, collecting information, journal writing, listing ideas, freewriting, and clustering related concepts. Writers must choose a specific topic rather than a general one to be successful.
