and easy, but slowly got more muddled and distant between the employees and the owners, Carol and Bruce. They started out working side by side with the employees, but as their business expanded and they hired Hans, most communication from management started coming through impersonal memos. f Hans instead used Carol and Bruce as a go!between, and had them send out emails directly to the employees, the dislike for the new "bureaucrats#, could have been mitigated. Having the emails come directly from the owners would give employees a clear way to respond and have a discourse with them. Store managers would still be responsible for making sure everyone was kept up to date, but the hierarchy wouldn$t seem so rigid. %n organi&ations choice in communication channels is a good indicator of the organi&ation as a whole. %s the Sundown Bakery got larger and more difficult to run, the communications became more distant and muddled. n a company like 'c(onald$s, where all policies are made at the top and sent downward, communication is very top!down as well, with employees only communicating past the management immediately above them in rare cases. Chapter 2 Question #3 t seems the best way for the Sundown Bakery managers to start communicating effectively would be to have meetings. 'emos are clearly not working out, one way communication does not promote dialogue. Taking some time at the beginning or end of the day a few times a week would allow managers to communicate the reasoning behind their policies, as well as give employees a clear channel to address their concerns.
