Flashing





- How to flash your DCT4 phones?


If your phones software is installed by Phoenix data package to phoenix directory please tick Phoenix checkbox first.

1.) Select corresponding model, desired version, from listboxes.
2.) From Product code listbox you can select the language pack you wish to flash to your phone.
MCU, PPM, UCP files will be automatically selected.
Press Flash button and your phone will be flashed.



Options for flashing:

Enable FTD: this setting enables Nokia net monitor on phones.
Skip Bluetooth flash: Skips Bluetooth flashing.
Skip flash erase: Tick this option only if you erased flash just before, or you are uploading the same software version to your phone.
Erase Flash: Erases flash area from erase file. Take care! PM values will be deleted also! (Only for experts)
Erase full: Erases the whole flash IC. Take care! PM values will be deleted also!
Easy flash cable: If you use easy flash cable, please tick this checkbox before any operation.




After flash processing settings:

Set Default: Full factory is enabled automatically! Pay attention to this setting!
- If you want to delete your phone settings and saved data (contacts, pictures) leave this checkbox selected. Otherwise unselect it!

Unlock: Click on this checkbox if you want to unlock your handset after flashing.
- (Check your local laws, in some countries this operation is illegal!)

Upload pm: Select this, if your phone has network problems. Permanent memory has values regarding this, and also other data also,
so always make a backup of your phonebook before doing this operation.

Repair BT: Repairs BT address.
Self test: You can diagnose your phone.
Set product code: You can modify the phones product code to the flashed one.
Reset warranty: You can reset your warranty menu to factory defaults. (IMEI, call data, repaired,)

Change powering mode

You can change your phones power up settings on F-bus cable.

Change phone mode

Test mode is needed for self test operation.
All others: Local mode

Format user area

If your phone has Contact retailer problems, even after flash, try to repair it with formatting. (User data will be lost!)
This option helps following models especially: 3650,7650,6600,6230

We recommend to leave the AUTO option ticked. (Wd2 stands for Symbian DCT4 phones, Tiku for example: 6230)

PM maintenance

Permanent memory can be read and written by this option. Use this if your phone has network or charging problems for example.
Important values range contains specific data for phones.
Full area contains also phonebook data, etc.
You can select Custom also (Not for beginners)





Other options

Repair BT: Repair BT module.
Self test: You can diagnose your phone.
Set product code: You can modify the phones product code.
Reset warranty: You can reset your warranty menu to factory defaults.
Read info: Reads information regarding software version, hardware version, Locks etc.

Lock manage






Calculate lock codes

For normal DCT4 models, you can calculate unlock codes. J ust enter IMEI, Asic type, mask, box ID and provider also.
If the phone is on the cable, you can use Read Info And Calculate button also.


Manage SIM

Write to phone: If you want lock phones to specific provider, use this option.
Read from phone: You can read the actual SIM-lock fields from phone.



Other options

Read lock info: Read your phones lock info.
Unlock: Unlock your phone with original lock zone, so it is not patch unlock, you can flash your phone after. If Old patch
lock/unlock is checked, then you can unlock your phones with old firmware patch unlock.
Auto Poll checkbox at the right side helps you, if you have big quantity of phones to unlock and you wont click the unlock button
every time.



For Dct4+ and Asic11 phones unlock with new UPP version (3168):

You need activate DCT4 SL2 unlock feature before usage. After this one time activation you are able to use the service.

IMEI Manage

IMEI change by patch -> This is for normal DCT4 phones.

Enter desired IMEI (or ESN), tick patch software, and click Do job.

If you want repair your phones with original IMEI tick Use original also!

Patch SW validity check is just for 6610i, 7250 phones with Contact Service problems.

Set warranty too: If you want to set warranty IMEI to the new patched one.



Asic11 IMEI change by patch

This field is for Asic11 phones. Use the same way as stated above.

After IMEI change you cant change the IMEI again and again, because you will have problems with the phone.

1. Erase your phone with Erase full button
2. Flash your phone with latest version.
3. Upload the corresponding PM file.
4. Do Full factory reset
5. Check your phone. It should work without any problem, but with old IMEI / Lock-info.

Patch phone again. All should be ok!


IMEI repair

This is for empty phones. Write desired IMEI, and press Write UEM.
(Caution! You can do this only once, because UEM is OTP- one time programmable!)

Write flash checksum: If your phone reboots in every 30 sec, try to repair it by this.



Read UEM: You can read out the original OTP IMEI from UEM

This option was used in past time for getting RPL from other servers for credits.

You can generate RPL for your empty phones with desired IMEI. Afterwards you can write it by RPL maintenance.
If you have many phones, use auto increment options for an automated process.

- How to use RPL functions with UniversalBox:

In some cases, you must recalculate UEM/Flash checksum in Nokia phones, like: UEM changing, Flash changing, Flash checksum
corrupted by some reason. UB can help you to solve these problems.
It is working with all ASIC types (ASIC-1 to ASIC-11).

Connect the phone to the box.

If you select Write UEM, it will recalculate both UEM/Flash checksum, but you must enter an IMEI or ESN number. In this case,
UEM must be empty.
If you need only recalculate the flash checksum, just press the Write flash checksum button.
The software always makes backup RPL file to Uni/Files/Nokia/DCT-4/RPL/ directory.


If you need to make RPL files for later reuse, you can generate them also here.

Enter the IMEI/ESN number to the correct field.
Select the phone ASIC type.

If you want to make multiple RPLs, you can do it with select Auto increment.
Enter a number to the field. This number means, when an RPL generated, the software increments the number by the entered value.
Enter to the count field, how much RPL need to be generated.

Press the Generate button.

The software places the RPL files to Uni/Files/Nokia/DCT-4/RPL/ directory.

- How to flash your BB5 phones?


If your phones software is installed by Phoenix data package to phoenix directory please tick Phoenix checkbox first.

1.) Select corresponding model, desired version, from listboxes.
2.) From Product code listbox you can select the language pack you wish to flash to your phone.
MCU, PPM, UCP files will be automatically selected.


Options for flashing:

Enable High Speed Flash: This option will enable 7,5M speed. It is checked by default, but if you get problems, uncheck it.
Enable Downgrade: Enables phone firmware downgrade if the flashed firmware version is older than in phone. Downgrading of BB5
phones is restricted by security certificates and is allowed only in some cases, so not all BB5 phones are supported for downgrading.
Skip flash erase: Tick this option only, if you erased the flash before, or you are uploading the same software version to the phone.
Save certificates before flash: Tick this checkbox if you want save certificates like NPC, sim-lock data before flashing. It is
necessary, because these certificates are unique at each BB5 phones.


After flash processing settings:

BB5 USB Flashing



There are three ways, if you want flash any BB5 phone by USB


1. Flash by installing original Phoenix package

You need install original phoenix installer. Phoenix original installers are located at Support area\Nokia\Phoenix\BB5 folder.
Install the downloaded package. Flash files will be located at \Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\ folder.
After installing you need check Phoenix checkbox under the BB5 USB flashing tab, select the correct product and product code.
So for example if we will flash an RM-495 product then you should select RM-495 as product, select any product code. In my case product
code is 0571588.
If your phone is working well, then power it on, install all drivers, and close Nokia PC Suite.
If your phone could not power on then check Dead USB.
Press flash button.


2. Flash with flash files downloaded from UB support

Product code is in my case 0571588. Select all files where you can see this product code. In this case you should select

rm495__06.65.mcusw - this is the MCU, main flash file
rm495__06.65.ppm_ee - this is the PPM, language flash file
RM495_0571588_06.65_006.dcp - this is the data package file
rm495__06.65.image_ee_blu - this is the contents flash file
RM495_0571588_06.65_006_signature.bin - this is the signature file
RM495_0571588_06.65_006.vpl - this is the vpl file, where the needed files are listed

Download the selected files, and after successfully download go back to USB flashing tab.
In this case don't check the phoenix checkbox, select RM-495 as product, select any product code.
If your phone is working well, then power it on, install all drivers, and close Nokia PC Suite.
If your phone could not power on then check Dead USB.
Press flash button.


3. Flash direct from online system

Under BB5/USB Flash tab you can download all available flash file versions for any product or you can flash your phones online. J ust select
Online from the drop down listbox and wait a while. You can select your current model, version, product variant. If you want only download
the flash files and flash the phone later, files will be located at \Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\ folder.
If you want flash the phone with already downloaded files just select Phoenix from listbox, select the correct product and product code.
So for example if we will flash an RM-495 product then you should select RM-495 as product, select any product code. In my case product
code is 0571588.
If your phone is working well, then power it on, install all drivers, and close Nokia PC Suite.
If your phone could not power on then check Dead USB.
Press flash button.

Options for flashing:

Restore user data: Starts firmware updating according to BackupRestore use-case. This typically saves the user settings before the firmware
update, makes the updating and restores the stored user settings.
Dead USB: Enables the dead phone USB flashing feature.
Enable Downgrade: Enables phone firmware downgrade if the flashed firmware version is older than in phone. Downgrading of BB5 phones is
restricted by security certificates and is allowed only in some cases, so not all BB5 phones are supported for downgrading.


Framework: Internal error occured for configuration. Details: MS XML parser 6.0 is not installed Install msxml6.msi from
.\Uni\Files\Nokia\BB5\Flash\DLL\ folder.

The ordinal 3873 could not be located in the dynamic link library LIBEAY32.dll - In this case you dont have write access to the system32
folder. Please copy manually all files from .\Uni\Files\Nokia\BB5\Flash\DLL\ folder to windows system32. (c:\Windows\System32\)

When do you need to calculate BB5 RPL?

BB5 handset has bad IMEI 123456-10-654321 because of wrong flashing.
Not accept any original sim-card.
You need to unlock it, but phone has 3/3 and 10/10 counters (not accept any NCK)

If you face one of these problems follow these steps:

1. Click Send ASK (this will read some data from your phone, and sends to us)
2. Wait about 24 hours.
3. Click Get RPL (If your RPL is ready or not, you will notice here)
4. Once you got RPL click Write RPL.
5. Do PM AUTH
6. Write phone specific PM (without field 120, 308).


Your phone should be OK.




Enter NCK

If you have the original NCK from your provider, you can enter it manually from the keypad, or if you have no more tries, then you
can enter from UB also. Plug your phone to the cable, enter the correct NCK to the field and push send button.

Simlock maintenance

You can manage your lock info here. You dont need to know if the phone has SL, SL2 or SL3 lock. Software will find the best way to
unlock your phone. J ust connect the phone to the cable and press the Unlock button, if your phone is locked.
If your phone has wrong lock info, press the (*)Repair button to get your phone to factorial 244-07 state.
If you want lock your phone to any network use the (*)Lock button
(*) - This functions will consume credits.


BB5 SL3 Unlock

With this new feature you can unlock the supported SL3 phones. Process is really simple, you should jus press Send LOG and check
your unlock process later with Request LOG button. Unlock can take up to 1 minutes 24h. If your LOG could not be calculated in
48h, you are able to cancel it. You can cancel your log as usual at www.universalbox.com website after you have logged in.

Super Dongle maintenance (SD)

This feature will repair all RAP3G and RAPIDO phones which are in Contact Service state, restarting by media player or by
camera function or just restarting randomly.

It doesn't matter what sotfware version you have.
This is not a free feature. About pricing check UB website as usual.

If you face with one of the listed problems press Calculate SD at Nokia/BB5/Maintenance tab.
This will consuming credits. After procedure finish, set your phone to "Local mode" and press PM Auth under Superdongle
maintenance. (This is a free service)
Write a good PM 1,309 block to the phone. PM files are located at ..\Uni\Files\Nokia\BB5\Product folder.
Warning! There are two PM auth buttons. The "old" one is for phones which are in original state and the new one (under
Superdongle maintenance) is for phones which are repaired with this new unique way.

If you are not sure and want check if you need calculate SD data or not press Check SD button.

This feature will not repair phones which have empty NPC or any other problem. So we prefer to check SD data before do
anything with Check SD button. This is the most safer way.
If you have dead phones, (restarting at Nokia logo, or freeze with white screen), backup certificates, (NPC,CCC, HWC, etc..) because
certifications can be saved from flash mode. Erase your phone and flash it with any version. Your phone will be in live hopefully.
Write certificates which where saved before. Repair your simlock and SD data and enjoy your 100% working phones.

Phoenix file update

Read: You can read the actual product code from the phone
Write: You can modify the phones product code. Be careful, if wrong product code is set, NSU could kill your phone!
Get file list: You can check the latest available flash files for entered product code.
Download files: You can download the flash files for the entered product code. Flash files will be saved to c:\Program
Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products folder.


Other options

Read info: Reads information regarding software version, hardware version, Locks etc.
Reset life timer: Set to 0 the phones total talk time. (*#war0anty#)
PM Auth: This function is important before any PM writing. Without this you will get Contact Service problems.
If you get Step 1 error, try again because answer must be under 3 sec.
If you get Step 2 error, write RPL first and try again, because your Super-dongle data is probably corrupted.

Restore lock: If you have backup file from the original state, you can restore sim-lock state.
Restore certificates: If you have taken backup from your phone before flashing, you can restore it with this function
Self test: You can diagnose your phone.

- How to flash without patching the software (this will flash original flash image)

Select correct phone model
Check the Skip AVR patch checkbox.
Select flash files. (Software versions MUST be same on AVR and ARM)
Press the Flash button.

- How to flash with patching the software

This kind of flashing is necessary when OTP and GDFS IMEI are not the same.
(E.g. IMEI changed)
Procedure is the same as before, just make sure Skip AVR patch checkbox isnt checked!



- How to flash PDA phones

Supported models:

- P800, P802, P900, P908, P910, P910a, P910c, P910i


These kinds of phones must be flashed in 2 steps.

1. Flashing AVR part (with or without AVR patch)
2. Flashing PDA files


Step by step:

AVR part

1. Select phone model.
2. Select AVR file. (Patch the software if necessary)
3. Press the Flash button.

PDA part

1. Select PDA1, PDA2, PDA3 flash files.
2. Press PDA button.

Note: At the end of the PDA flashing you may receive an error message. You can safely ignore it since it is the error of the original loader.

- How to write GDFS

1. Select phone type.
2. Select the GDFS checkbox and select the GDFS file.
3. Press the Write GDFS button.

This operation should repair dead, freezing phones at language selection.


- How to rebuild EPROM on T610, T630, Z600 phones

1. Select phone type.
2. You should either specify an IMEI number or check the Use OTP IMEI checkbox in order to rebuild EPROM.
3. Press the Rebuild EE button.


- How to unlock phone

1. Select the desired model.
2. Press the Unlock button.

Clear user code: This function will set the user code to default 0000

- How to flash UMTS phones

1. Select phone model.
2. Select flash files. (Software versions MUST be same with generic)
3. Press the Flash button.


If you have phone start up failed problem, upload Custom image again. This image contains ringtones, pictures and user profiles.

Use smartcard: leave it activated. Its needed for flashing, and other operations.
Use test point: Tick this to unlock by TP. (Old method. Now its not needed)
Restore RED: Restore phone state to red after each operation. (Recommended)
USB Mode: If you connect your phone over USB cable, check this option out.
Recover certificate: If you face with old CID 36 phones witch have wrong certificate, you can repair them with this function



Change CID

You can upgrade your CID version. Downgrading not possible. This is necessary if you have red led blinking phone.

Select correct model
Select the actual CID version from the listbox.
Press Upgrade CID button

With Make important GDFS values after flash you can automatically this process after each flashing.

Changing IMEI

Warning! IMEI change is in most countries illegal! Check your local laws!

1. Select phone model. (If functions are inactive, then not supported for given model)
2. Specify IMEI number, (or tick: use OTP IMEI)
3. Tick Patch software checkbox
4. Press Do job.

OTP

You can write OTP IMEI to empty phones. (Or after flash IC change) Please specify CID number and tick PAF checkbox.

Lock

You can lock your phone to desired provider

Db2020 unlock (by CSCA signature, full unlock)

Drivers for CSCA are at \Uni\Files\Ericsson\Drivers\A1, A2 Phone Modem Drivers path.

1. Select phone model
2. Press: Send Log
3. Wait 10min - 72 hours
4. Press Request Log (You will be noticed if your log is ready or not)
After this, your phone will be closed to all providers, but dont worry.
5. Press Activate.

And your phone is unlocked!

JAVA maintenance

This should work with all available CID versions (49, 51, 52, and 53) on DB2010, 2012, 2020 and PNX5230 platforms.

Unlock

Click to Unlock button
After java application uploaded, please turn on the phone with home network card or Motorola test card.
Go to Entertainment menu then enter Games submenu. Start Unlocker application, and wait till the phone restarts.
When the phone restarted, check if the phone is unlocked or not by pressing keys: >*<<*<*
Enter Service info menu, then select SIM lock submenu. If the phone is still locked start the Unlocker java application again.

IMEI change procedure

J ust write any IMEI to J ava Unlocker group box and click to Write IMEI. Procedure is the same as before just you will have new
IMEI also.

Make rest file: If you have new software version witch is not supported yet, you can make rest files for this procedure. Procedure is
very simple, just follow software messages.

Clear user code: This function will set the user code to default 0000

You can also read GDFS zone from phone, and also write GDFS file to phone.
(Not recommended for beginners)

GDFS image

How to flash

1. Select phone model
2. Select package, from the drop down list, what you wish to flash to the phone.
The progress window will notify you, if all files are available on your computer. If not, please download the files witch are marked
red.
3. Press: Flash.
4. Connect phone to USB cable while pressing C key. In same cases there is no C key. In this case press @ key.
